  1. this is a cool idea. Honestly, I don't know how many times I've been hassled by a weapon check guy for using one of those mags with the plastic bullets in it. This might just look fake enough to be obvious to them without ruining the immersion of the prop. A little glue and you could even keep the follower spring in it.
  2. not bad, but you've over engineered the strap a little bit. They actually used the same design as on the p90s. It's just a loop of webbing cinched down tight on the stock with a tri-glide and a buckle, the free end is held down with gaffer tape. Instead of the sling swivel, a square ring is threaded onto the loop that attaches it to the harness. @StitchsLoft sells them on his website, and has a video on how they're constructed, they're actually really easy to make.
  3. I've been thinking of doing this myself, I even got a springer M4A1 to cut up, but I haven't had the time to start.
  4. Rose City Comic Con is coming up, September 13-15.
  5. ok, I put it through the wash and set it out to dry. Looks like the paint came right out.
  6. haven't gotten up the courage to try it yet. I guess it's not my main vest though, so I don't have anything to lose.
  7. actually, if you look closely, some of them are wearing UK flags on the show, maybe those are Royal Marines. IIRC, they were introduced as an SAS SG Team in one of the SG-1 books, and the characters later made their way into the atlantis books. They definitely have improved in more recent books. The early ones are basically fanfics, but since then the authors have gotten way better, especially the Atlantis Legacy books. They're not Nebula award winners, but the last few I've read have been at least on par with contemporary Star Trek or Star Wars novels. They've gotten a lot better about researching the material.
  8. believe me, I would never have worn a Blackhawk vest paintballing. And, now I'll be a lot more careful when I see them posted for $10 on ebay.
  9. thanks! this vest is in pretty rough shape, I'm glad I didn't spend very much on it.
  10. I found a gen 3 blackhawk #3 on EBay for super cheap, and jumped on it. Unfortunately, I was so thrilled to find it I didn't take a close look at the pictures. Now that I have it in hand, I can see that it's got a bunch of pink stains on the back panel, which I think are probably from paintballs. Does anyone know a good way to get those stains out? I imagine I can't just throw it in the wash.
  11. I know I'm late here, but It should be noted that they phased out the wing tab patches about half way through Season 9 of SG-1, probably because they new that they were going to start introducing new 304s soon.
  12. I usually aim for cheap and small enough to walk around with all day, rather then authenticity with my pack. The pack I've used with my OD kit the last couple of years is a chinese knockoff of a BH! 3 day assault pack that I found on EBay for $10. Despite the cheap materials and construction, it's held up pretty well, and has enough room to carry my P90 and any other gear I can't wear outside of the convention, as well as any swag I buy while I'm there. It also had some handy loops I could attach the buckles to. With my desert kit, I use a Coyote MOLLE assault pack from Highland Tactical, that I found at ROSS for $20. This one was slightly less easy to modify for the buckles, but I managed to make it work, and it's also just big enough to fit my P90 and stuff. It's funny how often people ask me where I got a bag that clipped to my vest at shows.
