Hi all, My name is Karl, I used to be on Scifihero.net under the same username. I'm a big SAAB fan, I collect props, costumes, production material and crew items used in and made for the series. Below is a sample of some item is my collection.

Been talking with Eric about his Airsoft P-90 and offered to upgraded his magazines with a paper insert. Figured I'd share and make a tutorial at the same time. It's pretty easy project. All that is require is a screwdriver and a pair of scissors. First, download and print the insert PDF P-90-Magazine-Insert.pdf Then begin removing the screws, six to start. I've never found a magazine that doesn't follow the same screw layout. Once removed, you'll have to separate the end cap by pressing in and sliding the cap off, which will release spring that will slide out. Now that the screws and the cap are removed, you will be able to separate the two sections of the magazine. Inside you'll find another set of screws on the storage for the BB's that will need remove. Once removed, you'll have to cut out the insert, fold, and trim as needed. The insert will simply lay inside and be held in place by the BB storage. Then begin reassembling and once complete, you'll have an upgraded magazine. Keeping in mind that the tint of the plastic and printer quality will greatly effect just how visible the insert will be.

Got off my butt and finished assembling and painting the open staff head that Brian Capri hooked me up with. I got FAIRLY close to matching the paint job of the closed head my staff came with. I bought it years ago from Legends Canada. The heads are threaded and I can swap them out. I tried to post this under the JAFFA section, but it wouldn't highlight and let me select it.

Good afternoon. Just thought I let everyone that we stepped through the Gate this morning to Germany for FedCon in Bonn. Corin Nemec will be attending. However, hakf our uniform has stayed home since we didn't want to bring the P90s and Berrettas with us. Security at this gate location (Dusseldorf Airport) is not really fond of them.

Hi folks, I'm Ian, based in the UK (obviously) and been a fan for a number of years, with 2 Reel Icons-cleared costumes, for SG1 and SGA. Hoping to get to Cal Mah this year but it is a bit of a trek from where I live and not sure I can manage accommodation in the area, fingers crossed. Hope to meet you all at some con or other...

You can talk to Dan here on the site, he offers Atlantis jackets that are made to order, or did. These jackets were all custom made for the show so there's no source to buy them off the shelf and you'll have to find someone to make one for you. You could also contact a member named Gwenael, he's made Atlantis jackets before and does excellent work. However, he is in France so shipping will be high, and I don't know if he takes commissions or not.

Finally got myself a military issue O.D. Green flightsuit. I tried to source it through my Air Force buddies but they were phasing them out in place of a 2 piece. So to get a size that fits my shoulders It is baggy and long in the legs so I said to myself, "Self, you know they tailored those that were worn on the show." I took in the inseam and it fits and looks better THEN I referenced pics of Mitch Pillegi and BAM if he wasn't missing the bottom zipper and inside knife pouch, then I referenced one of him walking and I think I saw the zipper more towards the inseam, just like mine after I tapered.

I always kinda liked the leather jackets worn in later seasons which for me is weird because I never really cared for black leather but I always had it in the back of my mind to make one. I came across this leather jacket for $10.00 and thought it workable. I had trepidation regarding the collar at it was the regular type but I was pleased with it after I cut and tweaked with the same leather. I am looking at making the McKay "Pen Pocket" on the left arm.

Yeah, I'm surprised that no one has tried to make a (nice) toy grade working zat. Something made from injection molded plastic, basic paint job, and a motor inside; that should be something that could be done for relatively cheap so long as MGM doesn't charge a ridiculous amount for licensing right and thus be sold for a fairly low price point. If they could make it to where they could make money selling it for around $75 - $100 they could make money hand over fist because that would be right at the price point that most Stargate fans could either afford it or be willing to save a bit to get.

Any indication why this was done? I wonder how many different patterns were made for all of these variants? I only picked up one gravity suit when they were auctioned off, and regretted it since. Spent years looking for the rest of the ISO track suits and fightsuits, and finally got them. Let me know if you still want a flightsuit and I can hook you up.

An Arduino Mini does fit. One idea I had was to replace the static display with an LCD so that the iris code can be keyed in. Here are the lights and USB in action.

That's exactly what they did, they took SG-1 (I think SG-2 as well) and simply glued on numbers embroidered onto black fabric over the original number. While technically canon, I feel that in universe they were all supposed to be like SG-1 & 2 and that's how most patch makers make as well. Personally, I don't count mistakes and production shortcuts as canon, otherwise we'd have to accept that in the USAF the rank of Sergeant Major is represented by the combination of the gold oak leaves of a Major and the chevrons of a Sgt.
  25. 3 points
@Eightball The expression is actually canon, 1 N, like Church canon. To be cannon is a firearm chambered in at least 14mm or larger. Anyway, your Bates certainly do look close, the tread is obviously different but the rest of the boot looks a lot like a Magnum boot. But I don't think that matters much, it's certainly close enough and few people, if any, are going to be looking at your boots or even care that they may not be Magnums.

I used to wear magnum Classics on duty for 8-10 hours a day. Now I wear Bates boots which are very comfortable.

If you willing post pics or send them to me over FB privately I can see what you need, I have to wear a BH HUSKY because I have 52" chest so those are option for SGA, and I have few I can convert as well from Crossdraws, the problem is I have NEVER in 14 years seen MEDIC "8" in a HUSKY be my Holy Grail vest, but I have made them bigger. I can do a conversion and add HUSKY back panel it just have skip a grommet on the back since they have 7 instead of 6. I also can just add in material at the shoulders that normally does the trick what I had to do for mine and you most often can not even notice it unless your looking... So yes vest mod is an option if you want me to do it, I need to see some pics to see what would be the best course of action for you! I can make vest fit 5'1 98lb Asian girl or guy that is 6'5 280lbs so far even did SG-1 medic for 11yr old boy once 3 weeks before xmas! LOL
  28. 3 points
You can do that, but the side areas might look kinda bare. Ryan "Stitch" Nixon has made side panels to expand vests before. He would be great person to contact on this if that is the way you decide to go.

For the longest time airsoft guns have been the go to for Stargate costuming but, depending on the make and model, they can pricey or, sometimes, hard to find. Well, I've found a couple of alternatives to airsoft along with some places to shop for these alternatives along with low priced airsofts. The newest option out there are water guns coming out of Japan. There seems to be a new trend there now of releasing water guns (aka squirt guns) that are based on either guns from famous franchises (there's a replica of the pistols from Blade Runner and from Yamato aka Star Blazers) or from actual real steel firearms. A good site for these is Wish.com, there's quite a few different ones being sold including a white P90, but, sadly, it's the tri-rail version and not the standard red dot used by SG-1. But you can also find ARs, bolt action "sniper" rifles, an AUG, and I've seen an M249 SAW. Another alternative, once again mainly for pistols, are air guns. There's actually a good number of licensed air gun replicas of popular real steel pistols. These pistols look just like the real thing and base on a couple that I've held, weight about the same too. I've seen these at Bass Pro Shops but they might be also available through Cabela's since they're essentially one and the same now. These, for the most part, are retailing for $50 - $60, with rifles going in to the low $100 range. Both the water and air guns might be good alternatives for people who either can't find an airsoft version of their favorite pistol, or one at a price they're happy with, or just with the looks and feel. The water pistols are probably the most con safe and should pass security checks readily due to their weight. The air guns might be tougher to get past security depending on just how strict the con is, but not carrying any BBs/pellets and/or CO2 cartridges should help a lot.

BY GOLLY I THINK YOU GOT IT:) Color is because the screen used were dirty and these are fresh. Suede does that.

Riceball and Dr. Rodnay thanks for your compliments :) You're right about the dividing line along the stock. (I did not understand the first message) Normally the stock has to be totally smooth. However there was a problem to integrated the recoil tube buffer inside the stock. Tube diameter too big. So obligation to grow the stock, at this place. Photo of the strap We made the strap as short as possible ... But there is a difference. Normally the strap and clip goes inside the harness ring, so hard to dismount ^^

Do you have any other pictures of the boots? It's kind of hard to ID from just that one picture. Specifically, a good shot of the sole, the tread pattern can often be very useful for IDing a boot. A good side view of both the left and right sides of the boot would also help a lot. The cap could be just about any types of cap, it's a very generic design with nothing that really stands out. From what I can tell, it looks like a commercial reproduction of a US Army patrol cap with an adjustment strap in the back.

Hey there! Yesterday, I just add the final touch to my s1.5-3 blue paneled McKay uniform by making the panels' covers. Nice jacket! I had a jacket like that some times ago, also had it for litteraly two bucks on eBay. Not an exact replica of an Atlantean jacket, but what it cool with them, it's that as every character has its own jacket, yo can have any design you want πŸ˜› Here's an old picture of my former jacket πŸ˜‰

I'd think that since the team would be a joint operation from multiple branches of service but still a MoD operation I think that it would make the most sense for the members to wear their branch berets with their regimental crests on them. A UN patch wouldn't make much sense since the SGC isn't an UN operation of any kind and while some smaller countries may join the SGC via the UN, I don't see the UK doing this.

I was hanging with WalkingStranger this weekend and he showed me his GDO from SG Merc. It was nice and not that heavy:)

I had a nice talk with somebody at Wondercon this year when he saw a GDO being worn by one of our members in SG-10. He had made it so that it would light up at a push of a button and he put a USB charger inside as well. What the guy we talked to suggested was that you could actually make one that's "functional" by putting a small arduino chip/board in it and you could program it so that pressing the keys actually do something or you could punch in a series of numbers to have it do something. He was pretty certain that the GDO is just the right size to house an arduino or possibly a Raspberry Pi board inside. I think that a "functional" GDO would make for a pretty neat prop to go along with your SG costume. I wonder if there's room enough to also house a Bluetooth chip to connect it to an app on your phone? I don't know what exactly I'd want the app to do, maybe play the SG-1 theme song, or the sound of the gate activating, but I think that it would add to the novelty of the GDO if it could do those kinds of things.

My Magnum Classics would have been 1993 (ish). My Bates boots although not I believe the expression is 'Cannon'. Are similar and far more comfortable to wear all day.

The older out of service uniform guides are for costumes who might be trying to duplicate the uniform from that period of time.

Magnum response boots were used as well. I know of someone that counted at least 8 different types worn on Atlantis. I wore Hi-Tecs for a bit but most of these tactical boots kind of look the same with the leather and mesh. I do believe Danner was used as well.

A few years ago, I decided to alter my spare Medic Vest and use it for parts to make a new better fitting vest. Who knew that a couple years spent in a cruiser patrolling the county and getting fast food wouldn't help my clothing size? I tracked down some black mesh fabric called 1.5mm Polyester Hex-Mesh from a company called Ahh Specialized Textile Outfitters. I ordered a sample and it matched. I'd planned on just removing everything from my small vest (Trim, pouches, webbing, etc), and move it to the new vest. A project that I really need to get to... It seemed like a better option then sewing a spacer, that would go between the two sections with eyelets on both sides, to attach both front and back too. Which I did for my SGA vest.

I recently gave a briefing to the DAR( Daughters of the Revolution) concerning Stolen Valor, what IT IS and IS NOT. An Air Force JROTC unit was there with their LtCol. leader. I passed around a 'military" I.D. card that everyone thought was impressive and genuine, I then told them it is fake, made using resources found on the web and Office Max AND a computer program. I did this to show that with some determination anyone can pass themselves off so be careful. afterwards the Lt.Col came up to me and said "I was stationed at Cheyenne Mountain and you fooled me." Done properly you can look VERY AUTHENTIC:) Backstory: The DAR took a guys word for it he was a veteran and bought him a truck and THEN found they were duped.
